The center is dedicated to documenting the complex and diverse cultural traditions of teh American South.  The Center has long been associated with the study and presentation of Southern music, especially the blues.  The University’s Blues Archive attracts scholars from around the world.

The mission of the Center is for the Study of Southern Culture by investigating, documenting, interpreting and teaching about the American South.  It studies every aspect of Southern culture and encourages public understanding of the South through publications, media productions, lectures, performances and exhibitions.
