The Magnolias – Aberdeen, Mississippi

magnolias_ab.jpgThe Magnolias – Aberdeen, Mississippi

This home is of the classic Greek revival style with its spacious, columned front portico.  The double doors that adorn the portico is framed by multi-colored stained glass side lights making the entrance a true place of beauty.

The mahogany stairway in the home is truly an architectural masterpiece which leads from both the front and rear of the home,.  The tri-level stairway meets and crosses the hall and then separates again before ascending to the second floor which gives access to the street front and the garden front.  Underneath the stairs is another doorway leading to the dining room and storage rooms in the basement.

This is one of the rare instances where the house survived the War Between the States without having any damage.

The mansion is surrounded by massive magnolia trees that line the wide brick walk giving not only shade but the wonderful fragrance of the blooms during their season. The picture perfect home for the generations that have lived there prior to the mansion being given to the city of Aberdeen in 1986.

There are group and individual tours given to the Mansion Monday through Friday from 10 am until 2 pm or by appointment.

Cost: $5 per person with group rates available.
